Light Casino responsible gaming: limits, time-out and help
Gambling is paid entertainment with a real risk of harm. The tools below let you decide in advance how much money and time it gets, and the help further down is there for when it has stopped feeling like a choice.
Below: each tool in your account and how quickly it works, the signs of harm, blocking software, and where to get help, for yourself or for someone close to you.
The tools in your account
Every tool is set in your account under Account › Responsible gaming. A change that protects you applies immediately. Raising or removing a limit takes effect after 72 hours.
Deposit limit
A ceiling on what you can pay in over a set period. Once you reach it, no deposit goes through until the period ends. It counts money paid in, not wins or losses, which makes it the simplest cap on what gambling can cost you.
- Periods
- A day, a week or a month
- Lowering it applies
- Immediately
- Raising it applies after
- 72 hours
Loss limit
A ceiling on what you can lose over a set period: your stakes minus your winnings. When you reach it, no further bet is accepted until the period ends.
- Periods
- A day, a week or a month
- Lowering it applies
- Immediately
- Raising it applies after
- 72 hours
Session reminder
A message that interrupts play after a time you choose and shows how long you have been playing. It does not stop play; it asks you to decide whether to carry on.
- Intervals
- Every 15, 30, 45, 60, 90 or 120 minutes
- The reminder shows
- How long this session has lasted, what you have staked and your net win or loss since it began, with buttons to carry on, see your history or sign out
Time-out
A break from gambling for a fixed period, for when you want distance without closing your account.
- Lengths
- 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or 6 weeks
- During the break
- You can still sign in to withdraw your balance and see your history, but you cannot deposit, play or take a bonus, and we send you no marketing.
- Ending it early
- Not possible: a time-out runs until its end date, and nobody at Light Casino can lift it sooner.
Self-exclusion
For when a break is not enough. Self-exclusion closes your account for the period you choose. Before you confirm, read the reopening rule in this section: it sets when, and how, the account can be opened again.
To stay away from other gambling sites as well, add a national self-exclusion scheme where your country has one, and blocking software.
- Shortest period
- 6 months; you can also choose 1 year, 3 years, 5 years or permanently
- Reopening
- Not before the period you chose ends. After it, the account stays closed until you ask in writing to responsible-gaming@light-casino.biz, and play resumes 7 days after that request; a permanent self-exclusion is never reopened.
- Your balance
- Your cash balance is paid to your payment method within 24 hours, and any active bonus is removed.
- Also covers
- Every Light Casino account in your name, and any new account opened with your name, date of birth, email address or payment details
- Marketing to you
- All marketing stops at once, and it does not start again when the exclusion ends unless you agree to it again.
Signs that gambling is causing harm
Each of these is a subject of the Problem Gambling Severity Index, a short screening questionnaire. Any one of them is reason enough to set a limit or talk to someone.
- Staking more than you can afford
- Money meant for rent, bills or food ends up in a deposit.
- Needing bigger stakes
- The amounts that used to feel exciting no longer do, so you raise them.
- Chasing losses
- You come back on another day to win back what you lost.
- Borrowing to play
- You borrow, use credit or sell things to pay for gambling.
- Other people notice
- People close to you criticise your gambling, whether or not you agree with them.
- Your health or money suffers
- Gambling leaves you stressed or anxious, or causes money problems at home.
- Guilt and doubt
- You feel guilty about how you gamble, or wonder whether you have a problem.
A validated self-test
The Problem Gambling Severity Index (PGSI) comes from the Canadian Problem Gambling Index of 2001, and later studies have confirmed its structure. Its nine questions cover the past 12 months, each scored from 0 (never) to 3 (almost always). A total of 0 means no problem gambling, 1–2 a low level of problems, 3–7 a moderate level, and 8 or more problem gambling with a possible loss of control.
Take it on paper from the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (English, PDF) or online at Peluuri (Finnish). A score is a prompt, not a diagnosis.
Block gambling on your devices
A limit or a self-exclusion here stops play at Light Casino. Blocking software stops you reaching gambling sites and apps at all, on each device you install it on.
- BetBlocker
- Free blocking software from a charity registered in Scotland (SC049565), for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. It blocks hundreds of thousands of gambling websites and thousands of apps, and a restriction cannot be lifted before the period you chose ends. betblocker.org
Where to get help
The services below help anyone affected by gambling, whoever they played with: one online service wherever you live, and national services in Malta, Ireland, Poland, Finland and Hungary. None of them is connected to Light Casino.
For players in Malta: Supportline 179, the national helpline run by Appoġġ, on 179, 24 hours a day, every day, free from landlines and mobiles (fsws.gov.mt). National self-exclusion: Malta has no national self-exclusion register for online gambling; the Malta Gaming Authority’s self-barring covers land-based gaming premises only.
For players in Ireland: the Gambling Care Helpline on 1800 936 725, free, 24 hours a day, every day, and Extern’s problem gambling call-back line on 089 241 5401, free, Monday to Friday 9:00–17:00 (problemgambling.ie).
Wherever you live
- Gambling Therapy
- Free practical advice and emotional support for anyone affected by gambling, from Gordon Moody, a charity registered in England and Wales (no. 1124751). It runs support forums in several languages and advice for people affected by someone else’s gambling. Start at gamblingtherapy.org or write to help@gordonmoody.org.uk.
Poland
- Helpline
- 801 889 880, the behavioural addictions helpline of Krajowe Centrum Przeciwdziałania Uzależnieniom (KCPU), the national addictions centre. Every day, 17:00–22:00.
- Online help
- uzaleznieniabehawioralne.pl: online counselling and a section for families, in Polish.
- Self-exclusion
- Poland has no national self-exclusion register, so set limits, a time-out or self-exclusion with the operator you play with; at Light Casino, in Account › Responsible gaming. The Ministry of Finance’s register of domains offering gambling unlawfully blocks websites; it is not a self-exclusion list.
Finland
- Helpline
- Peluuri, 0800 100 101, Monday to Friday 12:00–18:00, free and anonymous. Chat on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 12:00–15:00, at peluuri.fi. Run by Sininauhaliitto and A-klinikkasäätiö.
- After the reform
- Under the new Gambling Act, players will be able to self-exclude from all licensed gambling on a single platform, and all gambling will require identification. The minimum age stays 18.
Hungary
- Counselling helpline
- ELTE Szerencsejátékos Segélytelefon, +36 80 980 025, weekdays 15:00–19:00. Free, anonymous and confidential, for players and relatives. Run by Eötvös Loránd University since 2013.
- Player-protection line
- +36 80 205 352, the free 24-hour line of the regulator, Szabályozott Tevékenységek Felügyeleti Hatósága (SZTFH), for reports and complaints about player protection. It is not a counselling service.
- With Light Casino
- Deposit and loss limits, time-outs and self-exclusion in Account › Responsible gaming, as described above. A lower limit, a time-out and a self-exclusion apply at once, and an exclusion ends only when the period you chose ends.
- With every operator
- A significant self-restriction statement (jelentős önkorlátozó nyilatkozat), lodged with SZTFH, bars you for up to 5 years from the types of gambling you choose, online casino games included. The form is on the SZTFH player-protection page.
If someone close to you gambles
Someone else’s gambling can cost you money, sleep and trust, and it is common to feel alone with it. Gambling Therapy, Peluuri, the ELTE helpline and uzaleznieniabehawioralne.pl help relatives as well as players, and you do not need the player’s agreement to contact them.
- Protect your own money
- Keep your income and savings where the player cannot reach them, and think hard before paying off a gambling debt for them.
- Talk when things are calm
- Not straight after a loss. Describe what you have noticed and how it affects you, rather than arguing over amounts.
- Get support for yourself
- Gam-Anon runs meetings, online ones included, for people affected by someone else’s gambling.
- Telling us
- If you are worried about someone who plays at Light Casino, contact the responsible gaming team below. We cannot tell you anything about another person’s account, but we review it and act where we see signs of harm.
Under 18s
Only people aged 18 or over may open an account or play at Light Casino. We check age and identity when you register, before your first deposit. An account found to belong to someone under 18 is closed, and every deposit is returned to the payment method it came from, with all bets and winnings void.
If children use your devices, keep your sign-in details to yourself, do not let a shared browser save your password, and turn on the device’s parental controls. BetBlocker also includes parental controls.
Contact our responsible gaming team
Write to responsible-gaming@light-casino.biz, or reach Light Casino support by live chat once you are signed in, or by email, every day from 08:00 to 24:00 Central European Time. You do not have to explain why you want a limit, a break or an exclusion.
If a limit or an exclusion did not work as this page describes, tell us. If our answer does not put it right, the complaints procedure sets out the next steps.
